WHAT IS CO-PUBLISHING?
In a many co-publishing agreements the author, an organization,
or a corporation has a specific need for a specific number of copies.
The author, organization,or corporation agrees to purchase a given number of copies.
In some instances the publisher and the author will share the expenses of producing and marketing the book.
The percentage of the costs which the author is asked to pay
may depend on the publishers evaluation of the market for the book or
the author's need to subsidize the price to make the book accessable to a certain constituency.
The book is published under the
publishers imprint.
Usually the publisher maintains inventory and does order
fulfillment.
In a co-publishing arrangement
the "dividend" or percentage of net revenue paid to the author is in proportion to the authors
percentage of investment. Often the publishers portion of the total cost will be recovered
from sales revenues before funds are paid to the author.
We do co-publishing under the Kirk House Publishers imprint.
If we judge the manuscript to have literary merit
and publishing potential, our first response will be to contact
you to begin the process of
developing a marketing plan.
The marketing plan will outline how many copies will be pre-purchased and
how many additional copies might be sold. Then, we will project the costs for the
production and marketing of the book.
We will recommend the percentages and amounts the parties
to the agreement will invest to achieve a successful publication.
When the publishing agreement has been signed by
both parties, the work on the production of the book will begin.
The agreement will specifically identify the
necessary steps
to the publication of your book and who is responsible for each.
We give personal, staff attention to the editing, production,
and marketing of every co-published title.
We are a small publisher with limited resources and staff. We are not prepared to read unsolicited manuscripts. Please mail or e-mail a brief (one to two page) précis of your manuscript together with a one page definition of the audience for your book (define your audience.)
Please
mail us or give us your address
to receive our co-publishing packet.
